About East Enders

Since its first airing in 1985, EastEnders has become something of a phenomenon in England. Set in the fictional borough of Walford in east London, the program centers specifically on the lives of the residents of Albert Square. The Square consists of several streets, flats, various businesses and a bustling market and busy pub in the center of it all.

Its residents, of course, are the real heart and soul of the program. Families with dramatic secrets abound, and storylines run the gamut from infidelities and teenage pregnancies to classic "whodunit" murders and child abuse. Being a soap opera, though, there's nothing straightforward and run-of-the-mill about these stories.

In EastEnders, it's plausible for the mother-to-be not to even know she's pregnant until she's in labor, for a man to have an affair with his son's wife, and for a young woman to get pregnant by her best
