Who Started It?
In 1986, Alan Bateman came up with this idea; he then decided that creating a brand new TV soap could be in rival with Australia's channel ten Neighbours. Mr. Bateman knew that he would be putting himself into a lot of challenge and had to come up with great ideas that would create more tension, and would be much realistic.
When was it broadcasted?
Home and Away was on TV in January 1988 and was viewed in most Australian homes; it also tend to achieve satisfactory ratings. As most of the viewers were so used to watching Neighbours, it took them quite a while to adjust and accept the brand new soap. Although ratings was low initially, the TV station gave Mr. Bateman and his crew some time to find its own audience. The main reason for why this happened could be that not enough planning was made as in the producer and head team of Home And Away could have taken more time to investigate into what they would like and how they they could beat Neighbours in the market. They could have taken into consideration when Neighbours have their viewings, what kind of issues they tend to show. But gradually, its popularity grew.
It then got a time whereby Home and Away was placed in the same time slot as Neighbours, which created some sort of soap rivalry. After some time, Neighbours time slot was quickly changed.
Initial Setting?
Initial Setting?
Mr. Bateman decided to make its setting very Australian. Which in other words mean that he decided to use all the beautiful beach side and landscape shots. It was set in Australia's beautiful, coastal town of Summer Bay. Here in Summer Bay there was a beach and it was hot; it also had a surf club and a beach side diner where you could purchase a choccy milkshake. <<<
Theme music??
The theme music for home and away is very famous and almost everyone knows the words to this song. The main purpose for this music is to grab the attention of the viewers and this has obviously worked well.
Hold me in your arms! Don’t let me go! I want to stay forever. Closer each dayyyyyy... Home and Away!'<<
Important Story line That Grabbed The attention of Viewers??
Life at the Summer Bay also had difficulties, even though Summer Bay seemed to mainly adjusted with young love until much more interesting issues started to creep in. The storyline of the Summer Bay stalker could be considered as the most successful storyline of 2005.
In 2006, Home and Away appeared to move onto a completely level as we saw shots of characters using drugs, violence and gripping family love triangles. This also seemed to work well as a lot of viewers could relate to it in some sort of way.
Typical Lines From Main Some Characters.

Irene Roberts played by Lynne McGrange Typical Line: "Gawd save Ireland!" Everytime an audience hears this line, he/she quickly remembers Irene. (The bay's second best foster mum)
Sally Fletcher played by Kate Ritchie. Typical line: "This family's falling apart and all you're worried about is how tall you are!"
